Shipping container architecture, cargotecture, pop-up shops... It’s probably best to start with the basics...

Shipping containers represent the perfect solution for almost any building project... We’ll explain...

Containers have a structurally sound frame which even under extreme conditions, such as at sea, can be stacked several stories high... If you then consider that each container could weigh 35 tonnes when loaded and the lower supports the others when stacked... do the math if you wish, but quite simply, as a building preformed structure they are ideal.

Containers are available in 40ft (12m), and 20ft (6m) lengths, with a couple of main variations on height.

There are also various other units such as flat racks which, essentially are platforms and can be incorporated into a build as needed. Walls, ceilings, floors & doors can all be removed, and the frames joined together to form larger and dramatic open spaces...Offices, Art Galleries, Classrooms... We can even shorten the frames if needed...

We can use them vertically or diagonally to provide stairwells, lift shafts, and if you are as adventurous as the plan our designers have for our new offices, even a Fireman’s pole...
We can cantilever them, allowing you to have your project with elements practically floating in the air... we can go further and glaze everything including the floor...

Pretty much anything is possible... we are currently finalising drawings on a Cinema, complete with bar, air conditioning 12ft by 6ft screen, entrance and separate exit for fire regulations... and you know it, here comes the punch line... it’s to go underneath a clients rear lawn...

It’s probably just an in-house joke, but when asked what we do, the standard response tends to be “Lego for Grown Ups!”

Arkitainer... Let imagination take you there.
